IBM ThinkPad 380 was a notebook computer manufactured in 1997 by IBM as part of their ThinkPad laptop series.

It introduced features such as 1 USB port, CD-ROM and a floppy drive it was considered a mid-range laptop by IBM at the time. The 380XD Model introduced the 233 MHz Pentium Processor with MMX Technology, and included 32 MB on the motherboard increasing the memory limit to 96 MB and a 6.2GB HDD.

I got this unit from a flea market. It was all covered in mud though when I opened the lid it seemed like new. This particular machine needed a sever cleaning, afterwards it looked like never opened from the box, with the original stickers, everything worked fine (except for the battery pack witch made a awful sound so I had to isolate the contact pins). I installed windows 98 SE and a few MS-DOS games.

“The ThinkPad 380XD is sure to leave a lasting impression with its easy to use and slim design.”

That was back in the 90`s. Actually is very thick and very heavy 3.2 kg (7.1 lb).

The bright side of this notebook is the crystal clear sound with high volume and bass. Its great to run music especially with that analog\mechanical volume control and those mind blowing speakers. If you think you are limited to 3.8 GB of music... think again, it has a USB port so with a 16\32GB USB stick or an external USB1.0 or USB 2.0 HDD you can listen to all your favorite tunes. As a note you must install the USB universal driver for mass storage devices on Windows 98, otherwise your USB storage won`t install. Too bad the video adapter is very poor 2MB so besides some .mpeg video files you can`t enjoy too much video power J
